Kona's Traveling Jewish Wedding Band

In Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, Barry & Gloria Blum created KONA'S TRAVELING JEWISH WEDDING BAND. With violin, contra-bass balalaika, vocals, keyboard, clarinet, accordion and percussion, plus other musicians as needed, this ensemble plays for weddings, parties, anniversaries, Bar & Bat Mitzvahs and other events. They are "available for your next affair" with a repertoire of klezmer, Yiddish, Israeli, Russian, freilach and other music, from horas to waltzes to Latin and Popular, and even Japanese wedding songs! THE GOLDEN GATE GYPSY ORCHESTRA OF AMERICA & CALIFORNIA otherwise known as
THE TRAVELLING JEWISH WEDDING

One of the first Jewish Wedding Bands to blossom in California with the early revival of klezmer music, the group included 15 musicians and other professionals. A large group, performing with three cantors (two men and one woman), one Russian operatic soprano plus another female vocalist and dancer, along with 10 instrumentalists, their presentations were well orchestrated and varied. They became extremely popular in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1970’s and 80's and appeared at major concert venues as well as on television. Mickey Hart, one of the Grateful Dead’s drummers and a respected ethno-musicologist in his own right, recorded their album which quickly became a classic.
